Day 4 ~ Mark of Athena

MA

“We’re staying together,” he promised. “You’re not getting away from me. Never again.”

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan is one of my favorite series out there. I love Greek and Roman mythology, and this series creates a modern view of it. What I love most about the series though, are the characters and how well Riordan develops them and their relationships. Similar to Harry Potter, the series starts with the main characters as 12 years olds who go on an epic quest to save the world. As the series progresses, the characters age and mature. (*spolier*)Percy and Annabeth, who start off as reluctant allies form an amazing relationship. It develops beautifully over the course of the series, and in the Mark of Athena you see just how in love these characters are.

This line, I felt, was so very powerful and true for the course of Percy and Annabeth’s relationship. Regardless of the consequences, Percy and Annabeth have always been stronger together than they are apart. This line is said during a part of the book where Percy could choose to save himself, or stay with Annabeth and possibly not survive.

Who wouldn’t want to feel the absolute love of someone who is willing to risk it all for you. Someone who wants to be together with you forever.

Day 17~ The Lightning Thief

“It’s funny how humans can wrap their mind around things and fit them into their version of reality.”

I’ve always found it interesting how people have the tendency to close their minds to any other possibility then the one they believe is correct. To get someone else to see, understand and believe something beyond what they already ‘know’ can be a challenge. It is often easy for them to just rework what they have learned, heard or seen and fit it into what they already know is true. Instead of being open to the idea of something existing outside their own thoughts and reality, people instead have the tendency to find a why to make things and ideas fit into what they believe.

We also tend to take in new information and interpret it into what already exist in our minds. We are also drawn to things that we already relate to and that makes sense to us or at least we rework it in our minds so that it does fit into what we understand. It is difficult, but by opening our minds and selves to other possible ideas, concepts, opinions etc we are allowing for the growth of seeing the world and the people in it in a new light.
