“Grow up and start being happy living in your own skin.”
I have been reading Susan Elizabeth Phillips for over 10 years. While I enjoy romance in a book, I rarely read actual romance novels. But I have read all of her books (and reread most of them). She has a way of making her characters real and easy to connect to. I was recently rereading ‘What I Did For Love’ and came across this quote. It really connected with me.
I think one of the hardest things is to be happy with who you are. We make excuses, and look for solutions to make us happy. People to make us happy, things to make us happy…and then we wonder why we can’t be happy. No one, no place, and nothing can MAKE us happy. The only person that can truly make us happy, is ourselves. We can surround ourselves with people and things to help us be happy, but in the end we have to look within ourselves to be happy. If we aren’t happy, we have to ask why and make the changes until we are.
I have decided I am ready to grow up, and be happy in my own skin. 🙂
“A slice of cake never made anyone fat. You don’t eat the whole cake. You don’t eat a cake every day of your life. You take the cake when it is offered because the cake is delicious. You have a slice of cake and what it reminds you of is someplace that’s safe, uncomplicated, without stress. A cake is a party, a birthday, a wedding. A cake is what is served on the happiest days of your life.”
“I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.”
